Product Review: VitaTops

Have you ever heard of VitaTops?  I had seen them advertised in magazines a few months ago and decided to give them a try because they boast some impressive stats. My favorite, Deep Chocolate, includes 100 calories, 9 grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein and only 1.5 grams of fat.  High in fiber and protein, which keeps you feeling full longer, and low in calories and fat sounds too good to be true.  I figured they probably tasted bad, but decided to give them a go.

I had to search for them in my grocery store.  They are carried by Bi-Lo and Harris Teeter, but not Wal-Mart.  They're found in the freezer section.  They're in a different area of the freezer section in each store, so you'll have to search.

You can thaw them in the microwave, but I bring mine to work frozen and then let it sit in the fridge until mid-morning snack time, and they are just right.   I've tried both the Banana Nut and the Deep Chocolate and I like them both a lot. I'm not going to say they are as delicous as a slice of chocolate cake or banana nut bread, but they're good.  The best part is the way they really satisfy you. When I have this as a 10 or 10:30 a.m. snack, I don't get hungry for lunch until after 1.  That's really great for me, and at 100 calories, they always fit into my snack plan.

The one downside is that they are pretty pricey.  If you try them and like them, then you probably want to keep an eye out for when your store puts them on sale and stock up then.

Have you tried Vitatops? What'd you think?

  1. I went to http://www.vitalicious.com/ and learned three new things about the Vitalicious line:
    1) they also make brownie mix :)
    2) there is a buy 30, get 6 free offer
    3) their products contain 9-11 grams of REAL SUGAR

  2. The problem seems to be that if you buy them at the store you can only get one of three flavors (and no brownie mix): Deep Chocolate, Banana nut and something cranberry, I think.
I think, once you add in shipping, they work out to be about the same cost if you mail order the 30 and get six free. :(

  3. I just saw them, for the first time, in the Lancaster Wal-mart this past weekend - believe they were $4.29. The chocolate ones were the only kind they carried.

  4. Been eating them for a couple of years now. First ordered them online through a Hungry Girl special. Have had all three they sell in the local stores and a few available only online. Like you said, not wonderful but definitely worth the calories for a snack...or even breakfast.
