Farm Fresh Fridays (on Saturday)

I finally came up with a good alliterative name for my Friday posts: Farm Fresh Fridays.  I must apologize for not actually posting Farm Fresh Fridays on Friday this week, however. I always grocery shop Friday night or Saturday morning and I usually rush to get the Farm Fresh Friday (I really love the name, can you tell?) post online so that I can get responses from you about how to cook the stuff before I go to the store.

But can you believe it, I actually recognized all of the food in my box this week! (Actually, I had to have someone identify cabbage for me, even though it was the second week I've had it. Cabbage is tricky to me, it looks a lot like iceberg.)

Anyway, I was excited to see something big and yellow peeking through my box when I picked it up this week. It was a squash!  While it was shaped differently than any other squash I've ever seen, I'm sure it will be just as delicious.  Here's a pic or two. These squashes (is that the plural of squash?) were really fun. Also, sorry for the hair in these pics, I'd been driving round town with my windows rolled down and my hair blowin' all around. I'm a hot Southern Mess. (Thank you Cee Lo and Brad Paisley for the combined power of your lyrics to capture the situation accurately.)

I also got:
Green beens
Broccoli
Potatoes
Lettuce
Cabbage
Zucchini

Gosh, I think that's it. All stuff I've had before.  I whipped up a sausage, green been and potato dish last night, pre-chopped some zucchini and squash that I will hopefully get to grill today and sauteed some cabbage for a snack last night.  Also, it's all so much more manageable since I started splitting the box with a coworker and blog reader.

Hope you enjoy your Saturday! I hope to get a run in before the rain starts.

  1. It looks like a butternut squash. I'd like to hope that the plural of "squash" is "sqeesh", but I'm probably wrong. :)
